Professor Roberto “Tussa” Alencar has over 20 years of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience, and in the last decade has seen first hand the influence of GB JJ on the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) world. His journey began years ago in Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil and he is now a 3rd-degree black belt who is due for his 4th degree this year in 2019. Prof. Tussa owns and operates four Gracie Barra schools in New Mexico while being the GB Regional Director in the area as well.
Embracing the No-Gi Game All of that changed in 2006 when Professor Tussa, a fresh black belt, moved to the United States. Under the vision and guidance of Professor Fabio Costa, Professor Tussa more fully embraced the vision of Gracie Barra and the inclusion of the No-Gi game into his journey.
Once in the US and continuing to pursue his Gracie Barra journey, he learned more about wrestling and saw that No-Gi training is much like wrestling. His GB business partner and fellow GB Regional Director in New Mexico is an All American wrestler - and a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu - and they both pushed each other to learn more about the other’s areas of expertise.
While Professor Tussa is understandably proud of his many accomplishments, he holds in higher regard the process of getting there and consistently learning from and teaching others. Professors Tussa’s notable accomplishments include:
World NoGi Champion (2009, 2008, 2007, 2012)
World Masters Champion (2016 Master 1*)
Pan American Champion (2009)
World Silver Medal (2007)
World NoGi Silver Medal (2015)
Pan American Silver Medal (2008)
Brazilian National Silver Medal (2004 brown absolute)
World Bronze Medal (2010, 2008)
Pan American Bronze Medal (2010, 2007)
