What is the most successful submission from the bottom for smaller jiu-jitsu fighters? It just might be the straight arm bar. This submission is one of the iconic submissions of Jiu-Jitsu - as most other grappling arts have not developed offense from the bottom as extensively as Bjj.
In our first video, we find Prof. Tussa has managed to cross the opponent's arm over the center line of their body and exposed the opponent's back. When the opponent postures to prevent the back take, Prof. Tussa looks for the arm bar.
Common mistake: Many beginner students fail to pivot enough from the bottom and their arm bar fails because they don't have the correct angle. See how Prof. Tussa spins to a perpendicular position relative to his opponent, getting the optimal angle for the arm bar.
