Note the detail that Prof. Rodrigo's first step is to perform a strong bridge in order to create a gap to loosen the pressure of the cross face controlling his head. With the space created, Prof. Rodrigo is able to slip his left hand inside and counter the cross face. That same hand will post on the opponent's triceps to execute the escape to guard recovery.
